As the parents of two young children we have spent a small fortune on plastic 'educational' toys that buzz, beep, whistle and screech for a few weeks before finding their way to the back of some cupboard. We have learned (the hard way) to keep a drawer full of batteries of every type and size and a range of glues to re-attach bits that drop off.
We notice that the Christmas and birthday excitement with these electronic gizmos rarely lasts longer than a few days and that the toys that come out most often, that give the most pleasure, stimulate the imagination the most and, ironically, last the longest are variations on those traditional toys and games we all had when we were kids - rocking horses, pedal cars, pushalongs, ride-on's, dolls houses, fire stations and so on.
Of course, you can still buy many of these from highstreet retailers but somehow, like Wagon Wheels and Curly Wurleys, they're not quite as big or tough as you remember them being.
So, we started Ladybird Toys to locate and sell the kind of simple, well-made toys our children enjoy most.
A modern twist on a classic theme, if you like. Proper toys, as Grandad would say.
We expect our toys to give pleasure for years and many will become future heirlooms; in 30-odd years time your kids will be passing them down to their own children.
We hope you enjoy browsing the toys we offer and please feel free to contact us if you want any further information.
